The wearing off the green commenced on Saturday March16th at 3:00 local time. The weather cooperated yet again and even though it was only about 40 degrees with the winter we have it was a balmy day!
The regular fare was once again observed, smoked pork sandwiches, homemade BBQ sauce, blue cheese coleslaw and a pot o' noodles for the veg folks. One of the guests was heard saying ' Oh I would never miss this they have the really good pork sandwiches" the tradition lives on!
We did miss Grandma and Grandpa Murphy as they were a tad bit under the weather and did not make the parade. However the newest member of the Murphy Clan, Maui made his debut and my friend Joe and Carmen's daughter Kia was his ambassador for the day the two of them had a blast.
The crowd was the usual size with many repeat and new "Irish for a day "participants. The parade, I think for the first time in at least 5 years was a complete group effort leaving no-one behind everyone fortified their beverage and made the trek along the parade route, again it was a blast!
It's always great to see young and old alike mixing it up Irish style wearing green and many other outlandish pieces of apparel. Their was a great group from both Tracy's and Tom's work along with a surprise appearance from Tom's oldest cousin and his son, his wife and their three kids, Tom's cousin Tim's grand kids! The party winds down around 8:00 and we all but finished the Keg the lone soldier played TAPS into Sunday and the call to arms was not heeded...
Sunday dinner - corn beef, roast cabbage, green beans, aunt minis and pumpernickel bread - best ever!
