Christmas vacation

ok, of course we usualy do our Christmas recap in January ...BUT...I cannot end this year as the lowest blogging year yet so..here we go. Last blog of the year at 9:30pm on 1/31

We were blessed again this holiday season. Health, family, friends, love, prosperity....dogs. food.  You know, all that make life worth living. Not that we didnt have our arguments, snipes, irritations and snaps  however, in the scheme of that all that is good, they are minor and typical human reactions to expectations, lack of personal space and trying to relax (god damn it!)  It didnt help that Tom has a swollen disc and its sending shooting pain down his right leg. Poor guy, He's a saint for putting up with all of us.

For the 1st time ever, we opened gifts on Christmas Eve so that we could get up at the butt crack of dawn to drive to Tammy's so that we could see Georgia for a full 24 hours before she had to to leave for NYU and swim practice. It was worth every minute but not without its own set of angst (blizzard, worship band, Vikings game, 10 hour drive, boyfriend (Eli), girlfriend (Caydee), dog walks, snowboarding pick up basket ball ...to name a few obstacles).

We escaped presents with little to no drama (thank you hydroxyzine) and were behind the blizzard for the most part (a few slippery bridges in Wi and terrible roads in Benton Harbor).

All is well that ends well. We made it to Grand Haven and had a week of cousins, grandparents, competitions, food, work outs, foot ball and laying around.

On the agenda included..paddle ball, cribbage, cards against humanity, ping pong, Y visits/workouts, escape rooms, high school basketball tournaments, hot tubs, reading, 2 sided puzzles and a daily trip to the grocery store to feed 4 teenage boys and 5 other adults.

Now, the week in photos...

Love the Hickeys, Basils and Murphys..to death...

The most christmasy weekend of all

SUCH a fun weekend with ALL our favorite people...

Friday night - Wendy, Sandy, Tom and I ... Dinner at Creekside Supper Club followed by a rocking holiday show by Tina S at Parkway Theater (Lola and Red Hots and Tina and the B side fame).  Perch fish fry, old fashion, cigarrette machine, red leather chairs with bronze tacks, popovers, cheap beer/wine, dancing, singing, crying, hugging, lead singer of Kiss the Tiger and ending the night with a rounding rendition of "you get by with a little help from your friends". Definitely need to make this a new tradition.

Saturday - Vikings win in overtime in largest come back in NFL history. Tom and Jimmy both quit the team at 1/2 time so when it was tied with 1 min left, I had to give Tom a play by play, over the phone, since he left to go grocery shopping. I didnt do too bad!

Saturday night - Angela, Dan, Tom and I ... Circus Juventus with drinks/appies at Waldman in St Paul. The Circus is now a Cirque du Sol feeder program. none of the kids is older than 17 and they ALL are amazing artists and athletes. Truly breath taking. Then, Waldman is a national registry historic site rebirbished to it original victorian St Paul glory. A micro brewery with deep german roots. Trout spread, rye bread, spaetzle and wurst.  The Best!

Sunday night- Simple Gifts (Billy McLaughlin) with Jim and Jen Fellows at the Parkway Theater (again). SUCH a treat. ALL the music is 500+ years old and its beautiful and calm and reassuring and timeless.  Their gift to us and it was perfect.

18?!

I have no idea how this happened but Tom and I find ourselves parents of 3 adult children. Billy, while never the baby, as our youngest, turned 18. SO SURREAL!

Billy has always been an old soul, so, him reaching adulthood just seems inevitable.  And yet... where is that darling little Billy Baloo, Shawny and cheeky pirate smiley guy?!  All wrapped up in a kind, calm, funny, determined, hardworking, curious, generous, thoughtful and charming young man.

We love you beyond measure and know that there are so many people we are grateful to and for bringing you into our lives. Sending your birth mom (& family) along with your foster family all the love we have in our hearts and the wish that they'll meet you one day. We KNOW they will be proud.

LOVE YOU!!
